As recently as the early 1960s, Saudi Arabia’s slave population was estimated at 300,000. Along with Yemen, the Saudis only abolished slavery in 1962. Slaves in the Arab World came from many different regions, including Sub-Saharan Africa  the Caucasus Central Asia and Central and Eastern Europe I think that says everything about Saudi Arabia…

A comment on my 'Freedom For All' piece on...
Commentator: I agree, but I think the west is confused about it's power. Some people want to help, but don't know how or maybe even if intervention would help. Others don't care and actively want to keep countries in states of anarchy. It's important that Geo-politics is called what it is, a game of bull-shit where everyone wants to keep everything the same or as similar as can be. Taking sides has never been very popular in that conservative circle.
Me: I think this colonialist ideology still survives within western political circles this idea of them taking advantage of the unfortunate state of many resource rich countries. Western society doesn't care that chinese 'slaves' (for want of a better term), who work 15 hours a day to make pennies are the ones providing them with their clothing, technology and food. Yes people care on a individual level but society doesn't care. We are conditioned by the mass media into actively maintaing the status-quo, we acknowledge the suffering in the world, but society continues in the same way regardless. Its not the people who are at fault its the system. I hope that made some sense.

Think!
There is one verse in the Quran about Hijab and hundreds about Sadiqa (voluntary charity) yet we always like to bring up the Hijab (or the lack of it) and hardly mention voluntary charity. This is an example of our obsession with the outward and our neglect of the inward.

Does anybody seriously think that those atop the pyramids of today’s hierarchical society drink, smoke, watch TV or do drugs? Obviously not, these are just poisons developed to keep the masses distracted from reality.

Coming to terms with reality
The recent release of the captured solider Gilad Shalit, has got me thinking. I just want to start of by saying I’m pro-Palestinian (and here comes the but) but the kind of commitment that the Israeli government shows its citizens is way greater than that which the Palestinian authorities do. They released thousands of prisoners in order to set Shalit free, somehow I doubt the Palestinian...
