Unfit judge rules rape victim who killed herself 'was as much in control of the situation' as rapist.

wilwheaton:

Outrage is growing against a Billings, Montana, judge who handed down a 30-day sentence to a rapist teacher and said the victim, who had killed herself, “was as much in control of the situation” as the teacher—35 years her senior at the time—because she was “older than her chronological age.” Prosecutors had sought a 20-year sentence in the case, with 10 years suspended. District Judge G. Todd Baugh imposed a 15-year sentence and suspended all but 31 days of it, with one day credited for time already served. The judge noted that the crime “did not warrant a lengthy sentence.”

Whatever other rulings the 66-year-old Baugh has made during his time on the bench, that one makes him unfit to serve a single day longer.

His victim was a 14 year-old child.

FOURTEEN. YEARS. OLD.

And he was given 31 days for raping a child.

I don’t even have words right now, I’m so angry.

Unbelievable

The murder, violence, rape and torture continues in Syria at the hands of the dictator Asad and his regime meanwhile the Arab League monitors turn a blind eye to evil that is being done there. The Arab League have blood on their hands, they are in a position to be able to save lives yet they sit idly by while innocent blood is being spilt.

Yesterday we did a historic thing. We generated 87,834 phone calls to U.S. Representatives in a concerted effort to protect the Internet. Extraordinary. There’s no doubt that we’ve been heard.

So just to keep you updated: The well-intentioned, but immensely flawed “Stop Online Piracy Act” is still in the House Judiciary Committee. The hearing was yesterday and now members will debate and bring amendments to the bill. The Committee will reconvene in a few weeks — the date has yet to be scheduled. Nothing has been brought to a final vote. Everything is still very much in play. We’ll keep you posted on what’s going on and what you can do to help. But for now, we want to thank you.

One encouraging thing we heard yesterday:

I don’t believe this bill has any chance on the House floor. I think it’s way too extreme, it infringes on too many areas that our leadership will know is simply too dangerous to do in its current form.

— Representative Darrell Issa

We also want to express our tremendous gratitude to our friends at Mobile Commons who, on 30 minutes notice, hooked us up with their amazing platform (and provided their expertise) to automatically connect callers with their Representatives.

This is why I love Tumblr

Touched By An Angel: Reputation and Character

heartofabeliever:

The circumstances amid which you life determine your reputation;
the truth you believe determines your character.
Reputation is what you are supposed to be;
character is what you are.

Reputation is the photograph;
character is the face.
Reputation comes over one from without;
character grows up from within.

Reputation is what you have when you come to a new community;
character is what you have when you go away.
Your reputation is learned in an hour;
your character does not come to light for a year.

Reputation is made in a moment;
character is built in a lifetime.
Reputation grows like a mushroom;
character grows like the oak.

A single newspaper report gives you your reputation;
a life of toil gives you your character.
Reputation makes you rich or makes you poor;
character makes you happy or makes you miserable.

Reputation is what men say about you on your tombstone;
character is what angels say about you before the throne of God.

May we be people who are sincere and strive to improve our character and not be people who are fake and only change for the sake of our reputation!
