The murder, violence, rape and torture continues in Syria at the hands of the dictator Asad and his regime meanwhile the Arab League monitors turn a blind eye to evil that is being done there. The Arab League have blood on their hands, they are in a position to be able to save lives yet they sit idly by while innocent blood is being spilt.

Yesterday we did a historic thing. We generated 87,834 phone calls to U.S. Representatives in a concerted effort to protect the Internet. Extraordinary. There’s no doubt that we’ve been heard.

So just to keep you updated: The well-intentioned, but immensely flawed “Stop Online Piracy Act” is still in the House Judiciary Committee. The hearing was yesterday and now members will debate and bring amendments to the bill. The Committee will reconvene in a few weeks — the date has yet to be scheduled. Nothing has been brought to a final vote. Everything is still very much in play. We’ll keep you posted on what’s going on and what you can do to help. But for now, we want to thank you.

One encouraging thing we heard yesterday:

I don’t believe this bill has any chance on the House floor. I think it’s way too extreme, it infringes on too many areas that our leadership will know is simply too dangerous to do in its current form.

— Representative Darrell Issa

We also want to express our tremendous gratitude to our friends at Mobile Commons who, on 30 minutes notice, hooked us up with their amazing platform (and provided their expertise) to automatically connect callers with their Representatives.

This is why I love Tumblr

Mark Shuttleworth announced at UDS P that Canonical plan to have Ubuntu on phones and tablets by 2014, truely brining Linux to human beings and Free software to the masses. This is my idea of what Ubuntu on a phone could be like. I intend to add more details and mockups in the coming days. Let me know what you think.

Won't You Make a Change?: Syrian government already in defiance of Arab League deal

Touched By An Angel: Reputation and Character

heartofabeliever:

The circumstances amid which you life determine your reputation;
the truth you believe determines your character.
Reputation is what you are supposed to be;
character is what you are.

Reputation is the photograph;
character is the face.
Reputation comes over one from without;
character grows up from within.

Reputation is what you have when you come to a new community;
character is what you have when you go away.
Your reputation is learned in an hour;
your character does not come to light for a year.

Reputation is made in a moment;
character is built in a lifetime.
Reputation grows like a mushroom;
character grows like the oak.

A single newspaper report gives you your reputation;
a life of toil gives you your character.
Reputation makes you rich or makes you poor;
character makes you happy or makes you miserable.

Reputation is what men say about you on your tombstone;
character is what angels say about you before the throne of God.

May we be people who are sincere and strive to improve our character and not be people who are fake and only change for the sake of our reputation!

The Bush Administration has spoken much on the so called ‘Axis of Evil’ that being Iraq, Iran and North Korea. These 3 countries were apparently the greatest threat to law and order and world peace. But it seems to me these nations are still dealing with world moulded by the Original Axis of Evil. These three nations: Britain, France and Spain shaped the world we live in today. The British empire was the largest empire in human history followed by the French. English is the most used language on Earth followed by Spanish, these are the legacies of empire. It was these nations that shaped the racist ideologies that shook the world during the 20th Century, the aggressive colonialism that existed in earlier times and the modern imperialism that the Soviet Union once deployed and that the USA still deploys throughout the world.

As recently as the early 1960s, Saudi Arabia’s slave population was estimated at 300,000. Along with Yemen, the Saudis only abolished slavery in 1962. Slaves in the Arab World came from many different regions, including Sub-Saharan Africa  the Caucasus Central Asia and Central and Eastern Europe

I think that says everything about Saudi Arabia…

Diary of a Bad Man on Babar Ahmad

Babar Ahmad, born in LondonEngland has been held in custody in the UK since August 2004. He has never been convicted of any criminal offence, but is held fighting extradition to the United States on allegations of involvement in websites supporting Chechen and Afghan insurgents.

In March 2009, he was awarded £60,000 compensation at the High Court in London after an admission by UK anti-terrorist police that they subjected him to ‘grave abuse, tantamount to torture’ during his first arrest in December 2003.

He also appeared in the media in February 2008, when it was discovered that his conversations with Sadiq Khan MP had been monitored by the police during prison visits. An investigation of the monitoring found no impropriety.

He remains in prison awaiting the outcome of his final appeal against extradition at the European Court of Human Rights
